A quick guide to playing Texas Holdem Poker

Texas Holdem Poker
starts out with what is known as a preflop.

Each player is dealt two cards, face down.

These are known as hole cards.

The two players seated on the left of the dealer have to make compulsory bets known as blinds.

The one seated closest to the dealer makes a small blind - 50% of the ante.

The one seated to the left of that one makes a big blind - 100% of the ante.

This ensures the game has a pot to be won.

Each hand thereon continues leftward.

Actual bets begin from the player to the left on the big blind player.

When everyone has made their bets, the flop begins.

The flop is three cards face up on the table.

These are also known as community cards.

This is because everyone on the table can use them to create combinations with their hand.

The turn commences when a fourth community card is placed.

A new round begins.

The river is the fifth community card placement.

A new round begins.

Any players still in the game at this point will reveal their hand.

This is called the showdown.

The winner is that which can produce a five card combination from any of the seven cards available.

The winner collects the pot.

The pot is the accumulation of all betted chips.

If there is a tie, then the pot is split.

All winning chips are instantly added to the winners chip pile.

A new game begins.
