Interview with LA Guns

Interview with Tracii Guns

For those that don't know, the original LA Guns line-up featured Axl Rose as vocalist. Shortly after, he left the band to form Hollywood Rose. Tracii agreed to join him and thus merged the two bands into Guns 'N' Roses. Tracii's time with GNR was short-lived and he soon finalized what is now known as the classic LA Guns line-up.

After a stack of recordings, we fast forward to 2010 and LA Guns have re-released 'Shrinking Violet'. This deluxe reissue includes live, never before heard bonus tracks. It features some of the bands biggest hits including 'Rip And Tear', 'Never Enough', 'One More Reason' and 'The Ballad Of Jayne'.

In early September LA Guns will be storming the East Coast of Australia.

I managed to acquire a quick interview with Tracii as they rock their way to Australian shores and gathered up some basic info on the legendary LA Guns.

Out of this long list of recordings, which would be your most favoured and why?

The self titled and waking the dead are my favorite records by L.A. GUNS. They seem to really personify the bands sound and intent.

What would be your most memorable gig / performance to date?

The Download Festival UK 2004 Brides Of Destruction. Most of my dreams came true that day!

Can you recall a favourite venue?

The Deadhorse San Angelo Texas. A real rock n roll club!

When you go into recording mode, do you find it easy or challenging?

Recording music is an art form all by itself. There are no boundries or limitations so, it is the one place where you can really get your vision together and make it a reality.

Who's been responsible for the bands artwork?

Some guy named Tyler who I don't think I ever met created the LA Guns shield.

What kind of instruments do you use?

I have my own signature guitar thru Dean guitars called the Tracii Guns Nash Vegas. I use and endorse DR Z Amps.

How hard has it been to get to this point?

Not hard, lucky!

Where does your main fan base / support tend to lie?

I don't really know, it seems about the same in every country.

What are some of your favourite Australian acts? And have you had the chance to play alongside them?

I think AC/DC is an Australian band, I toured with them twice in the states. They are gentlemen and one of the greatest rock bands in history!

After a live performance do you tend to go and hang out with the fans or do you prefer to keep to yourself?

A little of both.

What have been some of the more bizarre signings you've had?

I signed a womans third boob once!

What was the main reason you chose this career path and has it turned out as expected?

I have been playing since I was six years old. As a career I would have to say I didn't choose it. It has always just been what I do.

Let's pretend you were creating a tour survival guide. What would be your top three tips for surviving a long tour with the band?

Cliff bars, your mums credit card and something to read at all times.

From all the places you've been able to travel to, have you come across any which you'd consider a good holiday destination?

I really love Italy; mild to warm climate, fairly inexpensive, beautiful beaches, great food!

What words of advice can you offer anyone looking to enter the music industry?

You better be good at dealing with rejection!

What made you decide on taking this most recent tour to Australia?

First of all, Australia is a paradise so, any opportunity to come is welcome. Second of all we are promoting a record.

What would be some of your most memorable moments from the prime of the glam metal era in the 80's?

Watching WASP in a small club.

Anything you'd like to add or say to your fans?

Keep Rockin!
