After interviewing Deathbound back in January of this year, I was eager to hear the music with such an awesome list of musical inspiration behind them. You can read the interview here to get an idea on who these guys are and what they're about. But no more waiting, let's rock!
I Hate Them Still - The apostles of death have arrived amidst a wall of sound. The guitar is a distorted, rhythmic mass, the drums are hammering and the vocals are rife with a deathly surge. The musical beat is something to slam to with a good, fast pace. This is the longest track on the album at 03:03, so I guess we can expect very short but very sweet explosions.
The Wave Called Misery - We are hammered straight into this next track and the beat is intense! This somewhat reminds me of Napalm Death's 'Excursion To Obliteration' album with all the short, ruthless tracks. The song breaks into a short lead at about 01:15. This really is one quick and severe beating! The track ends with an increasing level of guitar feedback.
Free Shackles For Everyone - The best way I can describe this is like having someone thrown into a pit and their body is literally ripped apart by the savages within.
The Process Of Destruction - The intensity within this track is absolutely brutal, and for a length of 01:32 it really is shattering. It is just mind blowing because there is so much going in within here and it is all going by so fast you've really got to have a healthy heart to be able to sustain this album!
A Better Tomorrow - In all honesty, if you were in the moshpit for this band, you are going to have to prepare for some severe carnage! This is the kind of music that can set the scene for your day and help you to start it with a very confronting, set direction. If you need the motivation to get through what you know will be a shit, tormenting day, then this will definitely give you that 'no one can break me' attitude. On your way to work, play this in your headphones and enjoy your day!
A Reason For Your Fight - The pace is swift and searing. The energy levels are astounding! I am loving this album!
Hell Could Be The Cure - This song offers up a nice pace to either ease us into it or give us a slight break from the previous annihilation. Do not think for a second that this is any less brutal than its predecessors though, as it is merely a few drum hits less which soon become just as intense. You should note that a few of these drum hits less are nothing in the scheme of things.
When The Seas Are Boiling - We are introduced to this track with "I'm a human being and I kill human beings". That, quite possibly, can sum this one up too! Simply brutal and only lasting for 01:18.
Strain - Even amidst this blast of metal we can still decipher the guitar rhythms and enjoy its structure. This band work extremely well together and they must be sweating like all hell playing these tracks live. Another awesome track!
The Blues Of A Dying Man - I really like how this band can start out with a groove within the metal then just thrash out some fierce sounds. Catchy and killer!
Death Comes For A Visit - It is just right in your face straight up; totally unrelenting. A consistent barrage of beautiful noise!
Non Compos Mentis - Here we have the title track off the album for 01:35 and it is just as ferocious as every other track on this album.
The World Is But A Memory - You can understand the lyrics some of the time as deathly as they are. I have to note that this album has managed to make me query my head and whether it is still attached to my body after all this head banging!
A Need To Survive - I was not expecting an increase in pace at the end of this album. I didn't think it was possible really. Yet, they have managed to defy all odds. There is even that Carcass style added extra bliss with the medical dialogue.
In essence, Deathbound have created an amazing metal album filled with brutality and utter musical carnage. The album has an abundance of short tracks with absolute killer songs. I was expecting heavy but not to this intensity. It really is incredible! The cover art is a good representation of this album, as I think it shows if you are standing in front of the speakers with this blaring, your skin will blow right off! Because I have received the promotinoal copy of this CD, I can't comment on the full CD sleeve. But from hearing the content of this album I can recommend you get yourself a copy of this album and lose yourself in its splattering embers!
