Hailing from Wollongong NSW, since 2008 The Sacred Truth have been infiltrating the local Australian scene with their progressive rock / metal. They've supplied me with their Demo to share with you all.

Fallen – A gentle guitar piece introduces us into this track. The vocals are mainly clean though there are some hardcore type screamer vocals in here. My first impression is ‘garage band’ due to the recording. It’s a shame because I can hear the musical potential and think these guys need to get their hands on a good sound engineer. Getting past the recording itself and focussing more on the content I can say that the music is well structured. It is heavy and somewhat aggressive with twists and turns to keep you enthralled. I just wish there was a better recording of this because it does not justify the content at all.

Purpose In Life– Honestly, it sounds like someone tape recorded the band playing live in the rehearsal studio. I think bands should really consider making their demo’s as perfect as possible as you can’t afford to waste money on recording without a decent final product. It is worth the wait, so don’t rush things. Even if it’s your mate’s studio and they’re doing you a favour, it’s not worth it! Get it done by professionals! It’s a competitive world out there and a lot of people have access to a lot of home studio recording equipment, so you’ve got to be able to present to the world a masterpiece these days. I know we can’t all afford the best, but take the time to try and it will happen. It is worth your patience. Ok, back to the track… There are some decent melodies within here along with some seemingly strong, clean vocals, a consistent, heavy rhythm and a potentially catchy song overall.

Mourning Sun – A good strong rhythm invites us into this track then alters its mood to a more sombre pace. It gives you the impression that this band would be great to see live. The vocalist seems to be able to hold his notes and maintain a strong edge even delving into some deathly vocals at one point. The drums are well paced and keep the tempo flowing. The guitars have some good, heavy rhythms to keep that metal edge where-as this band tend to fall more-so into the heavy rock category. Though I’m sure with a proper recording, this band could prove to be more metal than it’s letting on. Perhaps in the mainstream side of things, but hey, isn’t that where the money is?!

Resurrection – This track does seem to harbour that metal edge I previously mentioned. Finally we have a decent guitar lead too. Ok, these last two tracks are the better on the Demo. I think seeing this band live would prove to be worth it, but somebody please help them create a decent recording! It’s such a shame that this isn’t promoting the band as it should be. There is some bloody good talent in here just dying to get out!

In essence, The Sacred Truth have some good music hidden behind this recording. I can only hope someone gives them the chance to record something decent and get them the help they need so this band doesn’t go to waste. There is potential here people, so check them out!
